Disney for the Weekend
I know I didn’t post anything last week outside of the word
association. Honestly, I didn’t have much to post about. But
I had a blast of a weekend.
As you easily guessed from the title, I spent the weekend at
Disneyland! Saturday was the annual day where my alma mater has
discounted tickets (even for alumni), so I was planning to go. However,
my parents decided to come down for an early birthday celebration, and go, too,
so we took advantage of the discounted So Cal passes and went both days.
Saturday was spent in Disneyland. Sadly, many
things were closed, including a couple of their favorites. However,
we did everything else they love. My friend Angelique joined us for
that day, and we had a blast.
Sunday, we then headed to California Adventure. Again,
they had Mom’s favorite ride in either park closed – Soarin’ over
California. However, we had a blast anyway. They had
never been on Radiator Springs Racers, and we managed to get that ride
in. They both loved it.
There was rain in the forecast for Sunday, and as much as we
need it, the timing could have been bad. We got a little sprinkled
on, but nothing too bad. However, it really poured as we were
driving home.
I’m a bit tired, and combined with the fun from the weekend
has made it almost impossible to concentrate at work today. But I
did still get quite a bit done. Mind over lack of mind and all that,
right?
Oh, and Dad has been working on converting some old records
to CD, and they brought me several of them. I am loving have these
songs I grew up with again. That was an additional present to some
of what I’ve already gotten and opened, and I am thrilled to get it!

Shut Out
Monday night’s game was by far our worst game to date. We
got completely shut out. As in 0-15 was the final score.
This was also the windiest game we have faced to date, and
we just couldn’t put it together. We had throws going wild or coming
in too quickly. We had plenty of opportunities to score, but we just
couldn’t capitalize on them.
Because there were so few points, even though we were down
several players, I played fewer points than I have the last few weeks. And
since we were down several key players, I think that was one reason we wound up
doing so poorly.
But I was able to car pool with Billy, and I enjoyed that
part of the evening. Plus I was home in time to watch Castle Monday
night instead of waiting until Tuesday. See, silver linings in
everything.

Week 5 Winter League Game
I’m falling behind on my winter league games. Heck,
we’ve got another one tonight, in fact.
But last week…
As I may have mentioned, we are now to the point where we
are playing A league teams, and we were in B last year. So the level
of play is much better than what we normally do. I wasn’t expecting
much out of us last week, so I was pleasantly surprised when we got a 15-9
score. And I felt the game was actually closer than that because we
had quite a few long points where ultimately, they wound up scoring.
And it was a fun game. Yes, we were in to it, but
at the same time, there was no nastiness coming from either side. It
was a good, spirited game, which I really needed.
Personally, I got opened a couple of times to get the disc,
even successfully passing it on one of them. The other, my defender
got the hand block. And I did get scored on once. So
about normal for me overall, but I at least touched the disc.
I also finally carpooled with a couple of friends, which
added to the fun, especially when we got stuck in traffic. There was
a bad accident coming home, and we didn’t find out about it until it was too
late. But we were able to chat for longer, so it was fun.

A Second Win!
And now you know why I don’t write stories for a
living. My title are full of spoilers.
Yes, we won our second ultimate Frisbee game on Thursday
night. We were playing a team that doesn’t have one win after three
years in the league. Yet it was a very hard fought battle. We
took half 8-3, but then we let them really catch up in the second half. It
was tied a couple of times before we finally won 16-14. But we won!
And I felt like I got to do something to help out,
too. First of all, I played more than two points. Yes, we
have that many guys on the team. I only caught the disc once, and
even then it wasn’t being thrown to me, but I was able to catch the over throw,
and I passed it on successfully.
It was also fun because we were playing a team with a guy I
know fairly well on it. JV and I have been guarding each other since
my first summer league in 1999. He got the disc much more than I
did, but he was playing a different position, so he was supposed to.
Most importantly, both teams were relaxed, even when the
score got so close. Yes, we were both playing hard to win, but there
was no poor sportsmanship (like a certain game that aired on national TV
yesterday).
All told, it was a fun evening that I really enjoyed.
