Well, look who's finally here with this week's Thursday Threesome! Got tied up working (gasp!) with Phil on an account that was way out of balance. Anyway, the proceedings this week are brought to us by an artic chill and The Back Porch.

Onesome: Three- Lucky happenings are supposed to come in threes... What else comes in triplets and trios in your experience?
According to Trixie, bad things happen in threes. :) Can’t think of anything in my life really.

Twosome: Dog- Dogs and cats... Got a preference? ...and how about pedigree vs pound puppies/kittens? What do you think?
I prefer cats over dogs, mainly because cats aren’t always jumping on you when you are just trying to stand or walk. Most cats anyway. But with my allergies, I can’t have either.

Threesome: Night- Hey, do you ever do a Sports Night and head out to watch a local team/event? What draws you out? Is it baseball, football, hockey, racing, lacrosse?
The last professional sports game I went to was an A’s game in high school. I could get excited about seeing a professional ultimate frisbee game, however.

It rained off and on all night last night. Kinda fun for something different. And I'm including rain in that statement. If it doesn't pour all winter....

Met up with Matt last night and we went to see Spy Kids 3-D. (This would be the Matt I ate dinner with almost every night until he left the college in May 2002.) Anyway, it was good. Better then #2, but still no where near number 1. Since almost the entire movie is in 3-D, there are lots of times when things come out of the screen at us. Frankly, wearing 3-D glasses for at least an hour really makes your eyes tired.

Anyway, it was nice to see Matt and catch up a little with him. And since we see all these movies together, it was a must that we go. Now, to find time to rewatch Finding Nemo and actually see Pirates of the Carribean. And I want to see Freaky Friday when it opens. Why is it all the movies I want to see are suddenly coming out now?

Today at work, I cleaned out my in box. I've used it as my filing system for over a year now, so it needed it. Everyone's commenting on how this is the smallest they've ever seen it. It has had less paper in it before, but not for very long. But having that tower of paper gone gives me a real sense of accomplishment.

And now, it's time to steal quizzes from Aleta.

So, Sunday, I had to come into the canyon (where Master's is) to pick up Tommy. As we were leaving, I thought I smelled smoke. I commented on it, but he thought it was just a BBQ. We had hardly gone any further before a fire truck came toward us with sirens blaring. After we turned out of the canyon, we could spot the fire on top of one of the hills.

When we got back into town, we came back to the canyon. All along the back of the canyon was black ground with none of the usual weeds. Master's is spread out on the side of this hill, so it came right up to many of our buildings. Did actually burn a modular building and some equipment that had been left out, but the majority of our buildings, like where my office is or our library, were spared. We're very thankful for that.

Getting the story from some of the people who were here for the whole thing, I guess it just raced down the hill because of all the dry brush. And the canyon got so full of smoke you could hardly see or breath. You could still smell the smoke when we got back several hours after it had been put out. I'm very glad we left when we did. :)

Not to be outdone, there was a small fire yesterday in town as well, but I haven't heard any more about it.

If you want to read more, our local paper has an article about it here.

One thing we have been told is that our compliance with the brush laws in the area are probably partially responsible for how little damage was done. So if you live in the country, keep the brush down like you are supposed to!

I finally did my laundry last night. Three loads worth. I would have felt guilty, but no one else was down there, so there was no problem. I also made several phone calls. I was trying to watch three hours worth of recorded TV, and it took me four hours to do it with the laundry and the phone calls.

It actually sprinkled today. It's still cloudy and definitely cooler then normal (high 80's). And more humid then I'm used to for Southern CA. We usually get a few days like this every summer, but I think they are usually in June. Didn't stop Pete and I from swimming at lunch time, however.

Monday, July 28, 2003

What a weekend!

Friday night, I intended to do laundry. But I also had some errands to run first. You know, little things like pick up the new Alias prequel novel, get my pictures from Trixie convention, that kind of thing. Didn't get home until almost 8:30, and decided to do laundry in the morning.

But, when I woke up Saturday morning, I didn't feel like doing anything that productive then, either. So, I made some phone calls I needed to make and watched a little TV before I left for the day.

I met Cameron here at the college at 1, and we headed down to Santa Monica. Had a great day playing in the sand and surf. The water was actually pretty warm. We swam for a while and then tossed a frisbee back and forth. We decided to try to see Pirates of the Carribean (which I still haven't watched), but it wasn't starting at a good time. After wandering around the promonade, we headed toward home. We were both curious, so we stopped at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. The way it's advertised from the freeway, we both expected something major. Basically, it's a small collection of shops and restaurants. We wandered around for about 15 minutes, and we'd seen everything. But we did stop at Fuddrakers for dinner. Man, do they have great burgers.

When I got home from church on Sunday, I pulled out my clippers and shaved my head again. Of course, I had to be in a hurry, which meant that the razor clogged more then normal, so it took me twice as long as I thought it would. But I wanted to get it done before I headed back to the beach with Tommy. We went back down to Santa Monica to play beach ultimate frisbee. It is so hard to run in the sand! And the wind was blowing, so you had to be very careful with the throws. But a good time was had by all (or both), and the water was still very pleasant. (You thought we wouldn't go in?) Made it back just in time to get to my youth staff meeting. Then I stopped by Tommy's and gave him a Mohawk. It was his idea, honest. :) I'll be back over this week to finish the job.

Needless to say, I was exhausted when I got home last night and fell right to sleep.

And I haven't even talked about the excitement I just barely missed, the fire in Placerita Canyon. We were lucky because the damage to the college was minimul and not what it could have been. But I'll take about that more tomorrow.

When last we left the condo buying saga, I was still waiting to hear about my counter-counter offer. Seems while they were deciding about that, a couple more bids came in which were better suited to there demands, so I lost out. Again. But there was no way I wanted to wait 17 days to find out if I'd get it or not.

As I mentioned, I looked at a couple more units yesterday. One is in the complex the most recent offer was in. They're asking an additional 5K. And the current owner is a smoker. With my allergies to smoke, that's a bad thing. The other has a floor plan that I really don't like. It's small, and wastes tons of space. We were the 7th person to view this condo, of course.

So, naturally, I'm down again. I don't know how much more of this I can take, and I've only been at it a couple of weeks.

The good news is that I'm finally making it to the beach this summer. Tomorrow for sure with Cameron (a fellow male Trixie fan I just can't get on the boards), and possibly Sunday to play beach ultimate. And I want to play ultimate Monday night as well. After a couple weeks of almost no activity, I'll be running all weekend.

In other news, we lost our game Wednesday night. Just couldn't seem to gel as a team. I had a great night, however, getting the disc several times and even scoring. Which made me feel better since I dropped and blew every throw in the pre-game warm up drill.

We had a small turn out in Bible study last night. But worship time went well. Still the only person doing the intros despite everyone doing them with me in practice. Not really sure what to do about that. Guess I'll have to ask everyone what needs to be done to fix that.

And Millie and Chuck left the Amazing Race last night. I wanted them to stick around long enough to get Jon and Kelly out. O well. Guess I can't have anything I want this week.

Thursday, July 24, 2003

Welcome to this week's Thurday Threesome, brought to us this week by Marie Calendar's and The Back Porch.

Onesome: Chicken- Chicken, beef or pork? What's in the barbeque or on the grill this summer? ...or is it just too hot and a salad is all you're up to putting together?
My BBQ? Nothing cause I don’t have one. I prefer beef over chicken or pork, so if I am at a BBQ and have a choice, that’s what it would be.

Twosome: Pot- Okay, really, did you inhale? I mean, what happened to all the side dishes that were served with the meat? ...and what side dish is essential to make your meal complete?
Did I inhale? I don’t even smoke! O, there’s more to the question. :) I like to have potatoes as a side dish, but I’m really not picky. Just don’t make potato salad and you’ve got yourself a guest.

Threesome: Pie- Hey, are you a pie or cake kind of person? ...or is it ice cream that 'floats' your dessert boat?
I prefer pie over cake, but ice cream is first choice. If it weren’t for my weakness for ice cream, I probably wouldn’t have gained nearly as much weight as I did my first year down here. Ice cream twice a day will really do it to you.

And, in condo news, I still know nothing about my counter-counter offer, but I think things aren't looking that good. Meanwhile, I'm going to look at a couple new ones tonight between work and Bible study

Wednesday, July 23, 2003

Well, my offer was counter-offered. I counter offered that at noon and am sitting here waiting to see what happens next. I hate waiting!

Took a nice little nap last night. Can't figure out why. :)

Got an ultimate frisbee game tonight after going to the Moss's to get ready for tomorrow night. We're meeting at six, so I need to get going fast after work.

But there's been something on my mind, and this seems like as good a time as any to share. I did share this with a couple people at convention, but here goes again.

It concerns our "wonderful" governor, Grey Davis. If you'll remember back in November, I voted for his opponent and was very upset he lost. I said at the time, we didn't need another four years of this guy who doesn't know what he's doing. Well, suddenly, lots of other people in CA have decided I was right. There's a movement under foot to vote Davis out of office, and it looks like it'll be on the November ballot. Like the good Republican that I am, when I got the petition in the mail, I threw it away. Why?

Maybe I'm being vindictive. But I don't see anything that's come to light in the last 9 months that makes him any worse of a governor. So, if he was good enough in November, why isn't he good enough now? People voted for him because they didn't know enough about Simon to make an informed decision. So. Anyone would have to be better then Davis by default. But, if people wanted him, then they should have to put up with him for four years.

Of course, this will not be a popular opinion with my family since they are facing weird stuff from the budget crisis. And we are in bad shape thanks to his "leadership." If this were next summer, I would have gotten behind it. But this started almost as soon as he took office the second time!

Now, when the vote comes, I will vote to get him out of there. And no, I won't be voting for Arnold if he should run to replace Davis. Don't know who I'll vote for yet, but anyone would have to be better then Davis.

When I got home Sunday night, I discovered I had a problem with my answering machine. Seems that the mechanism that makes the tape play (yeah, it's that old) had stopped working. I had one message that I have no clue what is. But I went out and bought a new phone/answering machine combo. So far, I've left myself a message and gotten one phone call on it. So far, I'm happy. I might even get caller id again after I buy a place and move since the phone is already wired for it.

So, the places I looked at last night. One was over my limit and two bedroom one bath. Ok, but not for that kind of money. One car garage and laundry facilities in the garage. The other place was a lower unit in a complex I looked at two and a half weeks ago going for much more then that unit did. My first choice would be an upper unit, but I went ahead and made a bid on that one this afternoon. Now we'll just have to see what happens. Second Tuesday in a row I've made a bid on a condo. Not a habit I want to keep up for very long.

I woke up this morning at 5 and couldn't get back to sleep. Not entirely sure why, either. Read for a while, and when that didn't work, I got up and cut my hair. Actually took a risk and tried blending with the next lowest guard. Came out very well if I do say so myself. Now, I just need to work down to no guard. Of course, I am thinking that if I'm going to shave my head this summer, now's the time. I just want to see if I can talk someone else into shaving with me.

Once again, The Amazing Race decides to put all their non-elimination legs together. :( Why? Especially since it would have gotten rid of Jon and Kelly. I'd be happy if any of the other teams won. And, I misset my VCR and didn't get Monk Friday night. Rats! (Can you tell I watched my tape of stuff recorded during convention last night?)

Think that's about it. Gonna end today with last week's Thursday Threesome, brought to us by AMC and The Back Porch.

Onesome: Bell- Belling the cat: What have you taken on lately that you really, really didn't want to do? ...and did it get taken care of?
Any work at all in the office. I'm getting stuff done, but not at the rate I need to get it done.

Twosome: Book- What was the last radical departure in your reading habits? I mean, you were reading one genre for a while, what did you switch to?
I read so many mysteries, does switching to Christian fiction count? :)

Threesome: Candle- Do you burn candles around the house? use them for decoration? ...or are you more into flowers and tablecloths?
I'm a bachelor. I don't decorate period. :)

I'm back!

I had a blast in Arizona. How could I not? Me and 22 beautiful women. :) Seriously, it was loads of fun.

Thursday morning, Angelique drove to my house and then we left...for the local grocery store to get ice and cash. :) Then we hit the road and started the long, almost 500 mile drive to Mormon Lake. Took us about 9 hours. Believe me, it felt good to get there. And, finally, get there before the people who had to fly in. :) Usually, due to time zone shifts, I'm the last one to arrive. It was kinda nice to be amoung the first this time around.

I got to share a cabin with Marsha and her mom, Laney. Now before you get any ideas, I slept on the hide-a-bed in the living room and they slept in the bedroom. The only problem with this arrangement was that I couldn't go into the bathroom in the middle of the night without waking them up. Naturally, I needed to go every morning before they were up and about. Never happens when I'm home. :) But still, it was loads of fun. And the only reason my towels disappeared was because they didn't give us enough when they cleaned on Friday.

Speaking of Friday, that was the day we took the train into the Grand Canyon. I had been to the north rim when I was in 9th grade, but it seemed so much more impressive from the south rim this time around. Not sure what that was. And the train ride back will go down in Trixie Camp lore. All I can tell you was that it had to do with robbers and strange cigars. :)

And Friday we got to meet Zap after all these years. That was special. Spent most of the time at the Grand Canyon with her and Steph. And she's just as nice as you'd expect her to be from the site.

Saturday afternoon we got to make a movie. It really didn't turn out to be as cringe worthy as I thought it would be. Lots of fun, and I got to have long hair for a change. :) (For the record, I am NOT Carrot Top's evil twin. I'm the GOOD twin.) This would have lots of blackmail material except for the fact that we will be showing these to family and friends willingly.

Saturday night we went to the Lowell Observatory. It was too cloudy to see much, but it was still impressive. I just wish I'd been more awake to enjoy it.

Yep, even with going to bed way earlier then normal for Camp, I was still tired much of the time. But I was awake enough to drive back yesterday. Even made it back in time to go to the SNYF last night. Fun, and the Durons and OtherSeth left for their mission trip today, so it was good to see them one more time.

Right now, however, I should post this and go. My realtor is stopping by my apartment in 15 minutes to take me to look at a couple condos. Not too sure I'm interested, but it never hurts to look.

Wednesday, July 16, 2003

I didn't get it. My realtor called this afternoon to tell me I was outbid by several thousand dollars. And there were a total of 6 bids in 24 hours. So now I'm back to being discouraged and convenced that I'll never get a place. :) Am I on a rollercoaster or what? (So what else is new in my life.)

And, to top things off, last night Dave left Last Comic Standing. In two weeks, I've lost both the people I was rooting for. It is a little bittersweet because the alliance got put in their place with Dat staying around. Next week will be intersting as everyone reevaluates where they stand after he survived. And I'm so glad to see them be brought down a peg or twenty. But enough about that. We're discussing it (as always) over at snarkfest.

And, on that note, I think I'll head out to get cash, buy gas, and head home. I'm skipping my ultimate game tonight, so it will be a quiet evening of packing and relaxing before Angelique and I leave for Trixie Camp in the morning. See you all when I get back.

Tuesday, July 15, 2003

I've made an offer on a condo!!!!!!

My realtor called me at lunch time and told me that there was a condo that had just gone on the market at noon. It's a little bigger then what I've been looking at and less money. The seller was looking to get rid of it and priced it to sell. I know we're the third bid on the place, so we'll see if it's good enough to actually get accepted. The price was low enough that I hope it is. And payments would be about what I really want then to be.

Naturally, that's about all on my mind right now. The deadline we set for them to let us know is tomorrow night. So I should know before I head off to Trixie camp. Feel sorry for everyone there as I start my hand ringing then if I get accepted.

This weekend was HOT! That wedding was in Twentynine Palms, and it was over 110 on Saturday. It was around 100 when I got there at 9:30 Friday night. And the buildings weren't air conditioned. They had fans and swamp coolers. That was it! Very glad to get back to 98 degree Santa Clarita. :)

The wedding itself was nice, and we were asked to sit in the front row even. Of course, that was because no one could see anything but the groomsmen's backs from where we were sitting, but it was still an honor. And it didn't make a difference in what we heard. :)

Actually got to spend time with my family and see their new trailer. Very nice, and the way it folds down is amazing and genious. Really, it is. We swam both places and played games yesterday. Dad and I actually won at canasta. Usually whichever team Mom is on wins, and she's usually Mike's partner. We drew cards to see which team was which, and that's how it turned out again. Dad and I were behind the entire way, but managed to pull it out in the last hand.

So, today, I had a million things to try to do, and I got none of them done. This is not a good start to my short week.

Went and looked at a condo at lunch time. But it's really out of my price range. If I'm buying something in that range, I need something where I can have a couple roommates. This was a small one bedroom and I wouldn't be able to have more then Marcus. And I doubt he'd pay half my mortgage for me. :) Prices seem to have gone up 10K in the last week! Yes, I'm a tad discouraged. Ok, alot discouraged.

But, since I looked at that, I didn't work out. And Tommy and I decided not to go to the ultimate frisbee pickup game tonight. And Pete and I won't be swimming tomorrow. So I've basically become very, very lazy. :)

I see that Susansuth didn't steal the quizzes I did on Friday. (The fact that she might have done them before hand is beside the point.) Here's another one I forbid her to steal!

Not surprised by the result. But I'm a little offended by the answers I had to pick. I don't agree with them any more then I agree with the wrong answers! But then again, they didn't consult me when they made it. :)

I'm sitting on my couch reading Wednesday night, when I got a completely unrelated thought. (That's how good #1 Ladies... was.) I have been approved for a home loan that would be well over half of my current take home pay. Now I know I'd get some more because of Federal tax stuff, but that down right freaked me out. Of course, nothing is much better. And rent isn't going to be much cheaper for much longer. I have to buy.

Garrick called Wednesday and told me he was actually out of town, so it turned out to just be me last night. Which was fine. Just wished I'd known sooner (he thought he'd told me), because I could have planned my week differently.

For example, there was a book signing I was interested in going to that night. But I decided to stay home and clean house and finish the book. Which was ok, but certainly nothing to get excited over.

After Bible study last night, I headed down to my ultimate frisbee game. We only had 1 woman show up, but they let us play 6-1 the entire night anyway. I was often guarding the other woman, which was fine by me. We won 17-12. The bad news was that one of our players broke his collar bone. And this comes after last week when someone on the other team broke hers. At least last week was a collision. This week, he was diving for a frisbee that was two feet out of bounds. And he couldn't have thrown it back to anyone in the goal because there was no one close by. He was a good player, and now he's out for the rest of the season, which is a real shame.

Got a call from the groom of the wedding I'm going to with my family tomorrow. Seems there's been a mix-up with the tuxes, and, for whatever reason, one of them is at a tux shop here in town. So I'm going to pick it up after work and take it over with me tonight. Works out well that I can help like this. I just hope it's ready. The store didn't have it ready to pick up two hours ago.

And, some quizzes I've been meaning to do. Not that Susansuth can steal any of them. I FORBID IT!

I wish this were true of me. But it is kinda cool that I got Pslams since so much of my church ministry involves music.

I know I saw Revelation in there somewhere. And I think Job was probably an answer. Any other idea what might have been answers?

With my family in town, I won't be here again until Monday, so have a great weekend, everyone.

Thursday, July 10, 2003

Good morning. Time again for the Thursday Threesome, brought to us by Subway (Eat Fresh) and The Back Porch.

Onesome- Honey: Hey there! Not that you personally need any sweetening, but just in case: what goes in your summer drinks to sweeten things up? Honey? Sugar? Artificial sweetener? ...or are your taking things straight up this time 'round?

Summer drink. You mean water? I’ll take it straight up, thanks. :)

Twosome- Mustard: Okay, what condiment has to come to the table for that burger or hotdog? Ketchup? Mustard? Salt? Pepper? Just what is it you 'relish'?

I’m a die hard ketchup man, myself. Really don’t go for anything else on the it as far as this kind of stuff. I’ll take a little lettuce and pickles. But not the relish. :)

Threesome- Sauce: ...and along with that, which sauce do you simply have to have around? BBQ? A-1? That special sauce you learned to make when you worked fast food at the mall? How about it? You brought those napkins along for a reason!

BBQ sauce. In fact, I’ll take that over ketchup if I have the choice.

Wednesday, July 09, 2003

So, I've now been pre-approved for a loan amount I'm not sure I'm completely comfortable with. :) But I want to at least look that high. And, frankly, the prospect of finding something up that high is better. So I'll just have to tighten up. This is be my last year at Trixie camp. And I'll have to buy fewer books, CD's, and DVD's. Not fun, but I need to do this if I want to stop paying rent and watch that go up every month.

Meanwhile, the two bedroom I liked so much Saturday is in escrow already. As is the best one bedroom we looked at in Castaic. The one bedroom from Saturday is still available, but I want to hold off. No need to rush now unless it's a two bedroom with laundry room space and a garage. If so, then I'd better jump!

Other then that, not much new in my life. The preliminary week of the audit is happening right now, but that hasn't really effected me much. Started cleaning the apartment last night. Dust and vacuumed. And did a load of towels. Tonight is cleaning the bathrooms, which won't be that big a deal since I just did that a couple weeks ago when Daniel spent the night. Heading over to the Moss's. Hope they remember since I haven't talked to them all week. And then hoping to finish The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency tonight as well. Still undecided on whether I like it or not. We'll have to see how it ends.

And I must add how upset I was to see Rob get kicked off Last Comic Standing last night. Truly, a very funny guy. If you want more on my opinion, head over to snarkfest.

Monday, July 07, 2003

Saturday morning, I was being lazy watching The Dick van Dyke Show on TV Land when the phone rang. It was Linda, my realtor. Two new properties were showing up on her listing, so I hopped up, took a quick shower, and we headed out. I really liked one of them, a two bedroom with garage and room for a full sized washer and dryer. I think it's in my price range, but Linda's mortgage person doesn't, and I haven't heard back from my guy yet today. Of course, that was Saturday. There are probably 3 or 4 offers on it already. We were the 4th people to look at it.

The other was a one bedroom that would work, but first choice is a two bedroom.

Now comes the hard part. Have I seen enough to know I want that two bedroom? It's been less then a week. Or will I never get a chance like this again?

So, being the basically responsible person I am, I headed out to Pasadena Saturday afternoon. Went by Mitchell Books. First time I've been back since Linda closed her store. Frankly, didn't look that different and, for all his talk, I wasn't that impressed. Basically, it looks like it did with Linda there. I thought he'd take down some of the dividers or something. Anyway, then I headed down to Book 'Em and bought the new books I "needed" that came out in July. I need more time to read.

Yesterday, Debbie was in town again. Had a wonderful lunch with her and Konrad. Before she got there, I headed over to Barnes and finally saw Trixie on the shelf again! Man, it was nice. Now, if only I could find them at Borders. They claim to have them....

Then last night was a SNYF. We played some fun games with ice blocks and ice cubes. The weather has "cooled off" to low 90's, but it still felt nice. :) And he showed pictures from the beach trip last week. Man, I want to go on one of their trips this year! We ran late, however. I really wish Dave would pay more attention to the time. We waited 40 minutes for him to finally get games started. And, since Kurt and I didn't know what we were doing, we couldn't get things started any sooner then that.

Friday, July 04, 2003

Wednesday was not my day. I spent the entire afternoon waiting for a call back from a mortgage guy, to no avail. Then, I left to go see Legally Blonde 2. As much as I loved the first one, this one was just plain stupid. I'd hoped for more from it. Then, I found out that, once again, Quizzno's has decided to stop making their Chicken Carbonara, my favorite sandwich by far. :( Things did pick up at the Moss's. We had a good time getting the songs ready for Thursday night.

So, yesterday, I went around with a realtor looking at condos. Very discouraging. The only two bedroom within my price range, was not in good condition at all. And was so poorly laid out that it would be hard to have much in the way of furiture in it. Not to mention the fact that it was right on Sierra Hwy. I much preferred a one bedroom we looked at in Castaic. Almost the same size, but with lots of room for stuff. Guess I'll just have to be patient and wait and see what else opens up. But I don't think I'll get my own washer and dryer any time soon. If only I could afford a mortgage on $40K more. :)

And I had an ultimate frisbee game last night. We were behind most of the time, but had just pulled ahead when two players collided, breaking a sholder. By the time we got that taken care of, the lights were going out. So we're leaving it to the captains and the summer league coordinator to decide what happens about that game. I'd like to win, but not this way.

Meanwhile, I gave the Duron's their second Trixie book. As I said at Zap's, I think I've created a new fan in Kiersten. She said she was almost done with book 1 and really enjoying it. Her face lit up when I mentioned the others her mom has in her office.

Today's just been a lazy day. Marcus and I watched 1776, I watched The Amazing Race (so sorry to see the supremes go), and here I am. Probably should head out to the grocery store and pick up a few things, then get dinner and head over to the career group's 4th of July party.

So, HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY EVERYONE!!!!!!

Came into the office today just to do the Thursday Threesome so everyone can steal it. :)

Brought to us this week by the US national holiday this weekend, and The Back Porch.

Onesome- Celebrate: What's your favourite way to celebrate? Do you go out for a meal at a nice restaurant or head out to the local bars and blow off some steam with your friends and a few drinks? Or maybe something quiet, like a nice meal at home with the movie of you choice in the DVD player or VCR? Or something completely different? Tell us!
Hang out with friends. Maybe go out to eat or just do something fun and different.

Twosome- Independence: How old were you when you declared your independence and left home for the first time? Did you go back temporarily? Are you still there? ;)
I left home the first time when I was 20 to come down here to college. But since Mom and Dad were paying my bills, I don't completely consider myself independent then. I'd say it was more so when I moved down here at 22 to start work.

Threesome- Day: As in, "Day-o!" (Cueing up Harry Belafonte!) Hey, what are you singing this summer? Last year it was Sheryl Crow "Soak up the Sun"; what's working the beat for you this year? Is there a favorite song or two on your hit list?
About the only song that really seems to have captured me this summer is Jars of Clay's "Faith Like a Child." Yep, the CD's only 8 years old and I finally bought it. :) Anyway, I had that song on repeat for about two days last week. (And I don't think I've ever even heard "Soak up the Sun.")

I really did intend to stop by yesterday. But Jason and I were working to reconcil an account so Sheree could close it for the year. We were working with faulty numbers, and once we figured that out (after an hour) we solved things in 10 minutes. :) Funny how correct information makes the job easier.

So, what have I been up to?

Monday night, I went down with Tommy and we played ultimate frisbee pick-up game. I was really encouraged because I scored twice, both times by breaking away from the guy guarding me. Makes me feel better about my playing abilities. Now, if only I could throw to someone on my team.... We're planning on going down every Monday night the rest of the summer, so hopefully it will help both of us.

Then yesterday at lunch time, Pete and I went swimming. Second time all summer! I figure between these two activities, I've lost 20 lbs., right? Right?!

Of course, I also caught a cold yesterday. It's summer, that's not supposed to happen! :(

My parents got back from their cruise yesterday and had a wonderful time. Heard all about it last night.

Called Mike Lovell again Monday night and we decided I really shouldn't go to Hume this weekend afterall. So, I'm stuck here in town. :( But I'm planning a trip to Pasadena today and I've borrowed some movies I'm interested in watching, so hopefully it'll still be a fun weekend. And I've got Bible study tomorrow and my ultimate game. Career group is having a get together Friday night, so I won't be completely lonely. BUT I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO GET OUT OF TOWN!!!!

Meanwhile, Phil told us to go home at noon, so I think I'm out of here. I'll probably be in at some point, but don't expect me until you see me.
